A vertical word search game using your own Scrabble or Bananagram tiles. The vertical board consists of ten columns set inside a clear acrylic front. Each column has nine rows into which tiles are dropped.
COMPONENTS:
Lasercut 8x9-inch vertical board with a clear acrylic front.
Two D6 dice and one D10 die.
Dry erase score trackers
Optionally, a set of two-sided letter tiles.
SETUP:
Assemble the board. Grab your bag of wooden Scrabble or Bananagram tiles and empty them face down behind the board as the draw pile. Decide whether to use six columns or all ten columns. Decide upon a target winning score, for example 150 points.
Players drop tiles into the board to fill it to the top within the designated rows, either 1-6 or 1-10 (0).
GAME PLAY:
Players take turns as follows:
Roll the die/dice to select a column.
From the front of the board, push out the bottom tile, letting the column of tiles drop.
Grab a tile from the draw pile and place it at the top of the column
Now all players have 30 seconds to search for words they spot in any of eight directions: left to right, right to left, top to bottom, bottom to top and four ways diagonally.
Players call out their word(s), write the word on their individual score trackers and record the value of the word.
Words must be unique, i.e. if already recorded, cannot be used again.
Repeat the game play until someone reaches the target score to be declared the winner.
NOTES:
To level the field for younger players, the youngest children need only form 3- and 4-letter words for double the points.
